What If I Have a Bad Trip or Scary Experience During Ketamine

Ketamine sessions can feel intense. While many people experience peace or clarity, others may encounter emotional waves that feel disorienting or even frightening. You might feel like you’re losing control, revisit old trauma, or become disconnected from your body or sense of time.

These reactions aren’t signs that something’s gone wrong—they’re signs that something important may be surfacing. Ketamine helps access emotional material that’s been locked away. That can feel overwhelming in the moment, but it often leads to relief, insight, and resolution afterward.

If this happens, the most important thing is: don’t fight it. Breathe, soften into the moment, and remind yourself:

“This is temporary. I am safe. This is part of healing.”

Being supported by a trauma-informed, emotionally present provider makes all the difference. We’ll prepare beforehand and process afterward so you’re never alone with the intensity.

In many cases, the sessions people find most uncomfortable end up being the most meaningful. With the right container, even fear becomes fuel for transformation.
